SDCC round up

July 23, 2011

Loads of info coming very quickly out of SDCC this week and here are a few select notes-

Sample reel of deleted scenes from the upcoming Star Wars Blu-ray releases.  It goes by quick but there are some real treasures here and I can wait for the release

Humorless.  Repeatative.  Emo.  Luke warm.  Reboot.  These are all words being tossed around about the new Spider-Man trailer that was released this week.  They may infact turn out to be true, who knows?  But all that aside, I am really impressed by Andrew Garfield, who crashed his own panel in a  Spidey costume.  He rolls out some very touching words about how awesome Spider-Man is and how much the character has meant to him growing up.  Nerdy,  awkward and amazing all at the same time.  Well done.

DC reported it but they arent saying why Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot Man of Steel has been pushed back six months to summer 2013 rather than a December release. As usual for production delays, it remains to be seen if this is good news or bad news for the movie itself. Take all the time you need because if this one sucks I’m hurling this planet into the Sun.

Boba Fett/Wolverine Cosplay

At the Comic-Con panel for his upcoming robot boxing movie Real Steel,  X-Men star Hugh Jackman revealed that the villain of the next Wolverine  movie — a 2012 film tentatively titled The Wolverine — will  be familiar nemesis Silver Samurai.

“I’m filming Les  Miserables in February, but before that I will be filming Wolverine 2 in  October,” said Jackman. “I’ll fight the Silver Samurai in it so that should be  exciting. Most of the filming will take place in Japan.”

Captain America film

July 23, 2011

…was amazing.  Here’s to you America!

Not going to review this thing but a few thoughts within an hour of seeing it:

Way better than GL

Evans was a perfect cast

Effects didn’t need to be over the top and they weren’t

They did a wonderful job of showing what a beast cap really is

Set up The Avengers in a really nice way

Sesame Street covers the Beastie Boys and some awesome, over the top toy violence

July 20, 2011

I was telling someone the other day how highly I regarded the new Beastie Boy album.  True, the boys are old but fuck if they didnt kill these tracks.  Below is the video for the new song directed by Spike Jones and it is an orgy of toy action, adventure and violence (just what every growing boy needs).  It’s long but kind of fun.  After that, if you are feeling nostalgic, a very awesome rendition of ‘Sure Shot’ as performed by the cast of Sesame Street that will have you smiling all day.

Wednesday is Spider-Man day

July 20, 2011

Loads of news today from Comicon regarding Spider-Man, well, 2 things really.  First is the first trailer for the upcoming reboot of the franchise:  It looks very slick but a tad on the ’emo’ side for my taste but we’ll see.  And the second is the new trailer for the upcoming Spidey game, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, where we find Peter Parker and his 2099 counterpart Miguel O’hara squaring off against villains in all kinds of different dimensions.  We get some video of Black Cat and Anti-Venom in here as well.  Looks really good.

The most interesting film of the year?

July 17, 2011

Have been trying to wrap my head around this project since I first heard that an adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Princess of Mars was being made. Here is the first trailer for John Cart of Mars and it looks pretty damn awesome.   I know Jack shit about the 1912 novel but i did make a note to pick it up on the next trip to the library.  Have a look.

Oh Snap!!

Wait for it – It’s worth it.

Wolverine vs Captain America

July 17, 2011

Cap squeaked by Aquaman in rd.1 and Wolverine took care of Aragorn in his first match.

VS

The Flash vs Thor

July 17, 2011

In the first round The God Of Thunder smoked Selene easily and The Flash beat up on The Vampire Lestat.

VS

The Return

July 17, 2011

Back after a wonderful and much needed vacation.  Time at the beach with the family, rock shows with some mates, a few movies and a tan.  It was perfect but now back to the nerd business and we have a few items that needed some attention, stat –

EW had a spread about the new Spider-Man reboot and included this pic of the new suit.  I dig the emblem and the original color scheme but did Pete sew this thing out of basketballs?

The New JL

June 27, 2011

I’m off to the beach to pretend I’m Aquaman for a few days but here is some news to kick around as you enjoy some time without my nonsense.

Over the weekend Jim Lee released this cool  promo pic for the new Justice League.   At the core we have Superman, Batman,  Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg.  Not a bad roster though its still rough not seeing The Manhunter in there.  In the frame we get a great shot of the new Superman outfit (without the red trunks) as well as the new tweaked gear for Hal and Wonder Woman.  The expanded line up can also be seen on the sides here with Dead Man, The Atom, the chick on the left side is either Star Saphire or Element Woman and then Firestorm (no idea if its Ronnie or Jason though).  On the right we have Green Arrow, Hawkman, Black Canary (I think) and Mera.

Not sure how I feel about Aquamans old lady tagging along but its a pretty solid line up.   Very solid, actually.   This squad vs the current Avengers squad?  Would be fun.
